As members of two Archeology Associations in Texas, we became interested in the various plants in Texas used by the early Indians and pioneers. |

We were delighted to find a variety of plants in the undeveloped parts of The Purple Gate Herb Farm were used for medicine, food, dye plants and fiber by Indians and settlers in Texas. |
| Our 24 acres is largely wooded. We live in the center in a cleared area for our cluster of buildings and gardens. | ![]() |
We cleared the woods and established herb theme gardens to demonstrate growing and using herbs. Some of our herb theme gardens are Ancient, Culinary, Asian, Tea, and Medicinal. Other themes are being studied for later development.Native flora in the surrounding woods are being studied and photographed for use in an American Indian Herb Garden perhaps in the future. |

Visitors to the Purple Gate Herb Farm are treated to discussions of the various theme gardens, individual herb plants and ways to use the herbs in a variety of ways both past and present. |

Community organizations, clubs and other groups can schedule meetings at The Purple Gate Herb Farm. In the spring or fall the weather is really wonderful for this outdoor experience. Often the gardens are freshened by the rains and the weather is comfortable. |
| Bud enjoys sharing what he is learning about the ancient art of pottery as well as the more modern techniques. | ![]() |
Bud has been studying Raku Pottery and he demonstrates this unique firing technique that originated in Japan. Recently he has been producing stoneware pottery for household use. There is a good selection of his pottery in our little shop. |
| Tasting is a big part of enjoying herbs. We encourage people to cook with herbs. | ![]() |
While Bud is demonstrating Raku Pottery, I am preparing herb seasoned dishes for you to enjoy. We encourage everyone to learn to use the herbs in the kitchen. |
